ThanksGivin’ Back had been an annual benefit party, started by
D.C. & Co. bandleader Dave Costarella in 2002 to raise money for a band mate’s
medical bills, and then for Hospice of Lancaster County, in the following years,
raising over $30,000 for them, other beneficiaries have been local foodbanks and
Finefrock –Stumpf Golden Gloves Youth Center.
After a two year break, due to the covid epidemic,
Costarella is excited to bring this Thanksgiving Eve celebration back into
action and to be sharing the stage with The Maxwell Project. “When I was a kid,
working at the Rendezvous, they had a record on our juke box’, notes Costarella
“through the years we’ve worked together, shared musicians and sound systems.
This year we are going on first, just so I can enjoy the party dancing to TMP!”
Between the two bands they have a combined 80 years of
performing and recording out of the south-central Pa area. DC says, “We’ve been
around but the energy is fresh! We’ll be bringing the down & dirty, horn –
powered rockin’ blues, while the ten piece TMP have their New Your City slick
sound with amazing harmonies ala Earth, Wind and Fire. It’s going to be a fun
show!”
DC’s “My People
on The Street Project” is going into its 7th
winter of supplying clothing, sleeping bags, food and love to the human beings
who are actually sleeping on the streets of Lancaster City throughout the
winter. Using his own money and private donations of both supplies and finances
has made this mission possible. Dave has been an active advocate for putting a
better system in place for helping our homeless population. His 2020 booklet “A
fresh Approach”

was widely acclaimed and used in training classes for local law enforcement and
in courses at Millersville University.
Costarella says” There are a lot of good people
doing incredible work, in an ineffective system. Until our leaders come together
to realize and announce that these are our brothers and sisters on the street,
our citizens and as a community we can do so much better to help them help
themselves, our efforts are only perpetuating homelessness. There are proven
methods that work much better and are more cost effective than anything we have
in place. It’s frustrating to me and dehumanizing to my people. Let’s make
Lancaster beautiful, from the bottom, up! ”
